A Student’s Perspective on the Value of Networking

Casoro Group Education Foundation board members recently invited Jaden Arnobit, a student at the University of Texas at Dallas and a former JLL intern, to the Interface Multifamily Texas Conference with them. This was an opportunity for a student pursuing real estate to increase their industry knowledge and to meet and build relationships with other professionals. Jaden shares some of his thoughts on this experience.

Insights from Jaden Arnobit

Attending the Interface Multifamily Texas Conference allowed me to hear and discuss current topics of concern within the industry among CRE professionals. Exposure to current trends and issues such as interest/inflation/rental rates, design and development considerations, and the emergence of single-family rental/built-to-rent are just a few of the topics I was able to explore further. Experiences surrounding me with professionals throughout many aspects of real estate have always provided the most valuable learning opportunities to see how businesses cross-interact, expanding my view and understanding of the industry.

Throughout the event, I had great conversations with developers, owners, attorneys, and design specialists who were more than willing to help me understand certain aspects of their line of work and issues they are facing—given current market conditions. My favorite topic discussed was single-family rental/built-to-rent products; this stimulated a diverse conversation across lines of work about potential driving factors and the impact on the multifamily market: Who were the users, and are they coming from traditional rentals? What design and amenities are unique to this product? Where are we seeing this develop? Discussions such as this exhibit the relational and intentionality of our industry to come together, deliberate trends, and execute solutions to meet needs.

Jaden’s Advice for Other Students

For students that find real estate appealing and have yet to find out what aspect of the industry to pursue, I cannot recommend enough meeting professionals with the determination to explore what it has to offer. You will only enlarge your view and understanding of what real estate provides, with the possibility of finding a more incredible passion within another role you haven’t considered. For students that have found the role that drives them to be passionate, intern, network, converse with professionals, and always maintain the mindset to learn. Conferences such as this provide an opportunity to become more competent in current market conditions, helping bridge the knowledge/experience gap between a student to full-time work.
